In 2014, the late Karen Michler started a mission called Health Hut for The Gathering. To this day, The Gathering continues this mission in her memory. Michler’s vision was for The Gathering members to provide items not covered by Public Assistance programs. Health Hut occurs every 2nd Thursday of the month. Helpers are to arrive by 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 411. N. 7th St., Lafayette.
We began this ministry while renting space there for services. When the doors open, we have an average 100 families who come to share the offerings. Then the Buttery Shelf, a not-for-profit organization, provides a free lunch for all who come to receive supplies and for The Gathering workers who prepare their care packages.
